The KENNAMETAL 4175867 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the NG2M100K insert style designation and manufactured to KCU10 grade, this insert features a PVD-applied AlTiN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 1.00 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm, it is well suited for tight-tolerance grooves in a metric-dimensioned workholding environment. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning applications install this insert using a clamp-style holding method compatible with Top Notch series toolholders.
This insert is used in precision turning operations where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required. The right-hand cutting orientation, 55-degree included angle, and K-style chip breaker geometry make it appropriate for grooving in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where chip control is a priority. It fits production environments ranging from short-run job shops to high-volume machining cells running metric tooling setups. The solid carbide substrate paired with the AlTiN finish supports extended tool life in interrupted and continuous cut scenarios at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept NG-style inserts with a 2M100 insert size designation.
This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or use improvised tools on the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping seat for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
