The KENNAMETAL 4175845 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to insert style NG in size 2031, this right-hand insert carries the KCU10 grade designation, indicating a fine-grain carbide substrate suited for consistent performance in grooving applications. The cutting width measures 0.0311 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.05 inches and a corner radius of 0.0035 inches. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert into compatible grooving toolholders for tight-tolerance groove profiles on metal workpieces.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a narrow, controlled cutting width is required. The right-hand orientation and NG insert style make it appropriate for use in production turning environments where repeatability and dimensional accuracy are critical. Typical applications include external grooving, undercutting, and parting on workpiece materials where the KCU10 carbide grade provides adequate edge integrity. The 0.05-inch maximum depth of cut supports shallow to moderate groove depths within a 0 to 0.075-inch depth range.
Designed for use with NG-style grooving toolholders that accept size 2031 carbide inserts. The manufacturer cross-reference number is NG2031R/L. Verify toolholder compatibility with the NG insert style and 2031 insert size before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and de-energized state per applicable LOTO procedures. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut during operation.
