The KENNAMETAL 4171844 is a VNMG332FP turning insert in the KCU10 grade, manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a negative rake geometry with a honed cutting edge. The FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip flow during continuous and interrupted turning operations. This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and machining centers by machinists and tooling technicians working in production environments. With four available cutting edges, it delivers consistent tool life across high-volume runs on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium.
This insert is suited for a range of lathe operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Its primary workpiece material designations are P (steel), M (stainless steel), and S (superalloys and titanium), making it appropriate for aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking applications. The KENLOC series insert is held in place by a clamp-and-pin method, compatible with standard VNMG toolholders. Insert orientation is neutral, meaning it seats in both right-hand and left-hand holders designed for the VNMG style. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4354 inches, and insert length is 1.3076 inches.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before applying clamp and pin torque to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each index to maintain dimensional accuracy.
