The KENNAMETAL 4171842 is a TNMG432FP KCU10 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for high-performance metal removal in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.03125-inch corner radius. It is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, which improves heat resistance and edge life when cutting ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. With 6 available cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, this insert delivers consistent, predictable performance in production machining environments. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The FP chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and medium-pass operations where chip control and surface finish are critical. The KCU10 grade, part of the KENLOC series, is optimized for interrupted and continuous cuts in the P, M, and S workpiece material categories per ISO classification. It carries both ANSI and ISO standards compliance and is identified by ISO code TNMG220408FP. Typical applications include shaft turning, bore finishing, and face profiling on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders from the KENLOC series that accept TNMG432 inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium per ISO material codes P, M, and S.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming cuts.
