The KENNAMETAL 4171824 is a CNMG431FP turning insert in grade KCU10, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a solid carbide substrate, delivering heat resistance and edge durability in demanding cutting environments. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The FP chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge make it well-suited for finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its primary workpiece material classifications are steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and superalloys and titanium (ISO S). Secondary applications cover cast iron (ISO K) and non-ferrous materials (ISO N). The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENNAMETAL clamp-and-pin style toolholders designed for CNMG-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.1691 inches. The insert is held using a combination clamp and pin method, providing secure seating during interrupted and continuous cuts alike.

Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials as indicated by ISO material codes P, M, S, K, and N. Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out. Clean the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp and pin are free of chips or debris before seating the new insert. Torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification found in the holder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear whenever replacing inserts to maintain cutting geometry accuracy.
