The KENNAMETAL 4150342 is a screw machine length (stub) drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking, machining, and fabrication applications. Built from solid carbide, it features a multilayer TiAlN coating at the tip for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 140-degree split-point geometry reduces walking and thrust force at entry, allowing for faster, cleaner penetration. With an overall length of 4.5276 inches and a flute length of 2.5591 inches, this stub-length configuration provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers and drill presses where chatter and deflection must be minimized. Machinists and tooling specialists are the primary users.
This drill bit is intended for use in production machining environments where dimensional accuracy and surface finish consistency are critical. The 37/64-inch (0.5781 inch) cutting diameter and straight cylindrical shank at 0.6299 inches diameter (16.00 mm) fit standard collets and chucks on vertical machining centers, turret lathes, and drill presses. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support efficient chip evacuation in short-depth holes up to a maximum drilling depth of 1.7717 inches. It is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a TiAlN-coated solid carbide tool is the appropriate specification.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide stub drill bit conforming to DIN 6537K, Series B041A-CPG, suitable for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 16.00 mm (0.6299 inch) straight shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide cutting tool handling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before operation. Solid carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or dropping the bit, as chipping or fracture can result. Ensure spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before use to protect the cutting edge and maintain hole diameter accuracy.
