The KENNAMETAL 4150271 is a screw machine length (stub) solid carbide drill bit sized to Letter U (0.3680 inches) with a 140-degree split-point geometry. Coated with TiAlN at the tip for heat and wear resistance, it is built for high-productivity drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a shorter, stiffer tool body reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy. With a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a tapered web configuration, the bit is designed for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine applications where repeatability and tight tolerances are required. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users of this tooling.
This bit is suited for stub-length drilling operations in production machining environments where rigidity is more critical than depth of cut. The 0.3937-inch straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Maximum drilling depth is 1.3780 inches (35.00 mm), making it appropriate for through-holes and blind holes in plate, block, and billet stock. It conforms to DIN 6537K specification, which governs solid carbide stub-length drills, aligning it with tooling programs that specify DIN-standard geometry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production drill bit for CNC machining centers, screw machines, and drill presses using standard straight-shank collet or chuck toolholding rated for 0.3937-inch shank diameter tooling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed only after the machine spindle has been brought to a full stop and the machine is locked out or powered down per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully in the collet or chuck before tightening to manufacturer-specified holding torque for the toolholder type in use. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or damage before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used if the edge is chipped. Disposal and handling of carbide tools should follow applicable shop safety protocols, as carbide dust and fragments are hazardous.
