Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4150157 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from solid carbide with a TiN tip coating, this bit delivers improved wear resistance and longer tool life compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 3.10 mm diameter, a 140-degree point angle for self-centering entry and reduced thrust, and a tapered web configuration that supports rigidity through the cut. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard chucks and collet holders. Machinists and toolroom technicians rely on this bit for precision work in CNC screw machine operations and short-hole drilling applications.

This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys in production and job-shop environments. The screw machine length format, with a 2.4409-inch overall length and a 0.7874-inch flute length, fits standard screw machine setups and short-reach CNC applications where a stub-length tool is preferred for rigidity. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in shallow holes up to 14.00 mm deep. It is a practical choice for aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking operations requiring tight tolerances and repeatable hole quality.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in hard and abrasive materials
  • TiN tip coating reduces friction and extends cutting life at the drill point
  • 140-degree point angle promotes self-centering and lowers axial thrust on entry
  • Tapered web design maintains core strength while improving chip flow
  • Straight cylindrical shank compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders
  • Conforms to DIN 6537K specification for consistent dimensional accuracy

Compatibility

Designed for use in screw machine and CNC drilling applications involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The 6.00 mm straight shank fits standard tool holders accepting that shank diameter. Conforms to DIN 6535 and DIN 6537 standards.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by machinists or tool setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable tolerance, as excess runout accelerates wear on a carbide tool. Do not use carbide drills in setups with excessive vibration or flex without confirming adequate machine rigidity.
