The KENNAMETAL 4149222 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. It features a 5.70 mm (0.2244 inch) diameter, a 140-degree point angle for improved centering and reduced thrust, and a multilayer TiAlN coating that extends tool life under elevated cutting temperatures. The straight cylindrical shank measures 6 mm in diameter and 36 mm in length, and the overall length is 82 mm (3.228 inches). The 2-flute right-hand spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability makes this drill well suited for deep-hole applications where heat and chip control are critical. It meets DIN 6537K specification and is rated for high-performance use.
This drill is intended for precision drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 35 mm maximum drilling depth make it a practical choice for production machining environments, job shops, and maintenance operations where consistent hole quality and dimensional accuracy are required. The tapered web configuration aids in chip breaking and center stability. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling specialist would typically apply this drill in turning centers, machining centers, or drill presses where coolant delivery is available.
Designed as a high-performance replacement jobber drill suitable for use in standard straight-shank toolholders and drill chucks accepting a 6 mm shank, across CNC machining centers, drill presses, and similar equipment set up for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum applications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and all energy sources isolated per machine-specific lockout procedures. Confirm that the toolholder or chuck is rated for the shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable limits before cycling the spindle. When coolant-through capability is used, verify that the machine's coolant supply pressure and flow are compatible with the drill's internal channel requirements. Discard the drill if chipping, cracking, or excessive flank wear is observed, as regrinding solid carbide tooling requires specialized equipment.
