The KENNAMETAL 4149221 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries a wire gauge size of 2, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.2210 inches, with a 140-degree split-point geometry that improves self-centering and reduces thrust. The multilayer TiAlN coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and interrupted cuts. Overall length is 3.2283 inches with a flute length of 1.7323 inches. Coolant-through capability delivers cutting fluid directly to the tip, making it well suited for deep-hole work and high-speed production environments. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators are the primary installers of this tool.
This drill bit is intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. It fits standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders with a 0.3594-inch shank diameter. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes up to 1.3780 inches. Manufactured to DIN 6537K specification, it is suitable for both manual and CNC machine tool applications where tight diameter tolerances and consistent performance are required across production runs.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and ER or DA collet systems accepting a 0.3594-inch shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes configured for right-hand rotation. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys per DIN 6537K application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for chuck or collet torque and runout tolerance. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the drill bit. Verify coolant-through lines are clear and pressurized to the system specification before initiating deep-hole cycles. Do not exceed the rated maximum drilling depth of 1.3780 inches without retracting for chip clearance.
