The KENNAMETAL 4148847 is a stub-length (screw machine length) solid carbide drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in metal and hard materials. It features a 140-degree split point for accurate entry and reduced thrust, a multilayer TiAlN coating for heat and wear resistance, and coolant-through capability to extend tool life in demanding applications. The 2-flute regular spiral geometry evacuates chips efficiently at higher feed rates. With an overall length of 58.00 mm (2.28 inches) and a flute length of 17.00 mm (0.67 inches), this stub-length drill is intended for rigid, close-tolerance work on CNC machining centers and screw machines.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling operations in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking environments. The short flute length and stubby body provide exceptional rigidity, reducing deflection when drilling small-diameter holes at high spindle speeds. The coolant-through design makes it appropriate for deep-hole relative to diameter applications and for materials that generate significant heat. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production drill for CNC machining centers, screw machines, and drill presses using standard straight-shank collets or chucks accepting a 4.00 mm shank diameter, conforming to DIN 6537K specification.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. The straight cylindrical shank requires a collet or chuck sized to 4.00 mm. Verify coolant passages are clear before use if running through-coolant. Do not exceed manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material to avoid premature coating failure or bit fracture.
