The KENNAMETAL 4148812 is a screw machine length (stub) drill bit designed for precision drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN at the tip, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for high-speed machining applications. The 140-degree split point promotes accurate entry and reduces walking on contact. With an overall length of 2.2835 inches and a flute length of 0.5118 inches, this stub-length bit provides rigidity in short-reach drilling setups. It follows DIN 6537K standards and is engineered for consistent, repeatable hole quality in production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This drill bit is designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine operations where a short, stiff tool is required to minimize deflection. The 2.30 mm diameter makes it well suited for small-diameter holes in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery to flush chips and manage heat at the cutting zone, which is critical in deep-hole or high-feed applications. The Series B051A-CPG designation indicates its place within the KENNAMETAL stub drill product family.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement within the KENNAMETAL Series B051A-CPG stub drill line. The 4.00 mm straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders dimensioned for that shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Verify collet or chuck runout with a dial indicator before production use, as carbide tooling is sensitive to runout-induced breakage at small diameters. Do not use this bit in hand-drill applications; it is intended for rigid machine tool spindles only.
