The KENNAMETAL 4132003 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 10-32 UNF internal threads in non-ferrous metals using a cold-forming process rather than cutting. This tap displaces material to create stronger, chip-free threads, making it well suited for blind hole applications where swarf evacuation is difficult. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it carries an H4 thread limit for close tolerance work. The overall length is 2.38 inches with a 0.5 inch thread length and a bottoming chamfer of 1.5 to 2 threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind hole.
This tap is intended for use in non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, copper, and soft alloys in both light manufacturing and field machining scenarios. The bottoming chamfer style makes it the correct choice when full thread depth must be achieved near the base of a blind hole. It is typically used as the final tap in a sequence following a plug or taper tap, or as a single-pass tool in CNC tapping operations where the pilot hole diameter is sized correctly for thread forming. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of fastener applications.

Thread forming taps must be used with an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil matched to the workpiece material — dry tapping in non-ferrous metals will cause galling and premature tool failure. Ensure the pilot hole diameter is sized per thread forming specifications, not standard cutting tap charts. Use a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle with the correct torque setting for small-diameter taps to avoid breakage. Deburr and clean the hole before tapping to prevent contamination of the formed thread.
