The KENNAMETAL 4131430 is a 1/4-20 UNC straight flute hand tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in ferrous and stainless materials. Built from high-speed steel with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this 4-flute plug tap delivers improved wear resistance and longer tool life compared to uncoated HSS alternatives. It carries a Class 3B thread fit and H3 thread limit, making it suited for close-tolerance threading work. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a 1-inch thread length and a shank diameter of 0.255 inches. Part of the Kennametal Series 8013 hand tap line, it is installed by machinists, tool-room technicians, and maintenance trades.

This tap is well suited for hand tapping operations in cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. Installation Notes

Hand taps should be installed and driven with a properly sized tap wrench - never a power driver at full speed without a torque-limiting chuck. Secure the workpiece before threading and apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material, particularly when working stainless steel. Reverse the tap one-quarter turn periodically to break chips and prevent tap bind. Follow all shop safety practices for rotating cutting tools.
