The KENNAMETAL 4131262 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 6-32 UNC holes in production and maintenance machining environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers increased surface hardness and lubricity compared to uncoated taps, extending tool life in abrasive and tough-to-machine materials. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across the first few threads, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With a 2-flute geometry and a right-hand thread direction, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear during operation. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 11/16 inches.
This tap is intended for threading 6-32 UNC through holes in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. It is used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-tapping operations across manufacturing, toolroom, and MRO settings. The H3 thread limit and Class 2B fit make it appropriate for standard-tolerance threaded fastener applications. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tap size and geometry.
Designed for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. KENNAMETAL Series 5301S. Suitable for use with standard 6-32 tap holders and collet-style tapping chucks sized for a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. For hand tapping, use a calibrated tap wrench and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, and never force a tap that has stopped advancing, as breakage and workpiece damage can result.
