The KENNAMETAL 4131261 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 5/16-18 UNC internal threads in production and maintenance machining environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers extended tool life when threading ferrous materials at moderate to high cutting speeds. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in over several threads, making it well suited for through-hole applications. With a 2-flute configuration and right-hand cut, it generates a forward chip-pushing action that clears material out of the hole during the threading pass. Overall length is 2.72 inches and thread length is 1.125 inches, fitting standard tap holders and machine spindles used in CNC and manual tapping operations.
This tap is intended for threading through holes in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. It is commonly used in job shop, production floor, and MRO settings where consistent 3B class of fit tolerances are required. The H3 thread limit designates a ground-thread oversize suitable for materials that spring back slightly after cutting, such as stainless steel. It is installed by machinists and tool and die tradespeople using vertical machining centers, drill presses with tapping heads, or manual tap wrenches.
Designed for through-hole tapping in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits standard tap holders sized for a 0.318-inch shank diameter. Part of the KENNAMETAL 5301S series.
This tap is installed by machinists using CNC machining centers, tapping heads, or manual tap wrenches. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engagement. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless steel, to reduce heat and galling. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and replace if cutting edge condition is degraded.
