The KENNAMETAL 4131215 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 3/4-10 UNC holes in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, it provides lubricity and basic corrosion resistance during cutting operations. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads — makes it suited for through-hole threading applications where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. With an overall length of 4.25 inches, a thread length of 2 inches, and a shank diameter of 0.59 inches, this tap fits standard 3/4-inch tap holders and is sized for production and maintenance machining environments. The H3 thread limit specifies a ground oversize tolerance for consistent fit with standard UNC class fits.
This tap is rated for use in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it effective in through-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. It is commonly used in job shops, production machining, and maintenance repair operations (MRO) where 3/4-10 UNC threads are required in ferrous workpieces. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users. Coolant-through capability is not included on this tap, so conventional flood or cutting oil lubrication applies.
Rated for threading cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. Designed for through-hole 3/4-10 UNC tapping applications using standard tap holders accepting a 0.59-inch shank diameter.
Install in a properly sized tap holder or tapping attachment; verify the holder accommodates a 0.59-inch shank before use. Power down and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Apply cutting oil or flood coolant appropriate for the workpiece material — stainless steel and cast iron each require compatible lubricants. Right-hand cutting direction only; confirm spindle rotation before engaging the tap to prevent breakage.
