The KENNAMETAL 4131213 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal threads in a range of industrial materials. It produces a 10-32 UNF thread profile using a 2-flute, plug chamfer geometry that pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge rather than packing them into the flute. The tap is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish for added lubricity and surface protection. It is sized at 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.875-inch thread length and a 0.194-inch shank diameter. The H2 thread limit and Class 3B fit classification make it suitable for precision thread work where controlled tolerance is required. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals use this tap in manual and CNC tapping operations.
This tap is rated for use in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The plug chamfer style with 2 to 3 lead threads makes it appropriate for through-hole tapping applications where a full thread can be started gradually. The spiral point geometry drives chips forward through the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. It is well suited to production tapping environments where consistent thread quality across multiple holes is required. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional feed with common drill press and CNC tapping cycles.
Rated for tapping cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. Designed as a standard fractional-inch spiral point tap for use in applications requiring a 10-32 UNF internal thread.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, tapping head, or CNC machining center. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before engagement to prevent thread distortion or tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, especially when tapping stainless steel. Follow machine shop safety protocols and manufacturer tapping speed recommendations for the specific material and tap size.
