The KENNAMETAL 4130581 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading M3x0.50 Metric Coarse internal threads in bottoming applications. Built from vanadium high speed steel with a straw finish, this tap features a fast helix angle of 52 degrees that efficiently evacuates chips upward during through and blind hole tapping. With a 6H class of fit and D3 thread limit, it produces threads within standard metric tolerance for precise fastener engagement. It is suited for machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators working with non-ferrous metals requiring controlled, close-tolerance internal threads.
This tap is used in machining operations where threads must extend to or near the bottom of blind holes. The bottoming chamfer allows full threads to be cut as close to the hole floor as possible. With only 2 flutes, the geometry provides ample chip clearance in softer non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. The fast 52-degree helix angle is optimized for these materials, reducing cutting pressure and the risk of tap breakage at this small diameter. It is a single-piece packaging item suited for low-volume production or maintenance machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral flute tap for M3x0.50 Metric Coarse blind hole tapping operations in non-ferrous metal applications.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or rigid tapping chuck appropriate for the shank diameter before use. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed is set per the material and tap diameter recommendations before engaging the cut. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil for non-ferrous applications to extend tap life. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as broken tap removal at M3 diameters is difficult and can scrap the workpiece.
