The KENNAMETAL 4129402 is a round ceramic turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for high-demand metal removal applications on superalloys and titanium. It carries the ANSI insert code RPGV45E and grade designation KYS25, a SiAlON-based ceramic with a multilayer CVD coating of Al2O3 and TiCN. The insert features a full-radius round shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, producing a stable, free-cutting action. With 4 cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent tool life in medium machining conditions where high wear resistance is the priority. Each insert weighs 0.01 pounds. Licensed tradespeople and CNC machinists working in aerospace and power generation typically spec this insert for roughing and semi-finishing passes on nickel-based and titanium alloys.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on superalloys and titanium in both production and job-shop environments. Its round insert shape (Insert Shape Code R) provides maximum edge strength, which is critical when cutting difficult-to-machine materials at elevated temperatures. The medium chip breaker geometry handles moderate feed and depth-of-cut ranges without excessive chipping. The insert is screw-held and fits standard round insert toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO specifications.
Designed for use in standard round insert (RPGV-style) toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 45 and ISO size code 120700. Primary workpiece material classification is Superalloys and Titanium (ISO material code S). Confirm holder bore and clamping screw dimensions match the 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and 0.3125-inch insert thickness before installation.
Round ceramic turning inserts should be installed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as ceramic inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before clamping, as ceramic inserts have zero tolerance for an uneven seat. Follow the machine tool builder and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for cutting parameters; do not use coolant unless the application and grade are confirmed compatible with interrupted coolant exposure on ceramic grades.
