The KENNAMETAL 4121723 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG431MS geometry, grade KCU25, with a physical vapor deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating. It carries an 80-degree trigon (W) shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 3/16 inch thickness, and a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The KCU25 grade delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it well suited for interrupted or variable-condition cuts in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloy workpieces. The insert seats with negative rake and negative side clearance, and the honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on entry. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is designed for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations in a roughing to medium machining range. The MS chip breaker geometry is optimized for steel and stainless steel applications where chip control at moderate to high feed rates is critical. It fits the KENLOC insert holding system and is secured by clamp or pin methods. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2278 inch, and the insert length is 0.6840 inch, placing it in conventional light-to-medium roughing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers processing P, M, K, N, and S material groups.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting WNMG431 geometry inserts with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and superalloys and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S).
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not substitute clamp screws or over-tighten by feel. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming cutting operations.
