The KENNAMETAL 4121713 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG330MS geometry with a KCU25 grade designation, designed for high-performance single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, and a honed cutting edge style. It carries a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.004-inch corner radius, and a negative rake and relief angle configuration. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers consistent performance across roughing and medium machining passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance turning applications will find this insert well-suited for demanding material removal tasks.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its KCU25 grade provides moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it a practical choice for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The MS chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, helping to manage chip formation across a wide range of depths of cut up to 0.435 inches. This insert is designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin retention. It conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG3302MS and ISO insert code VNMG160401MS, allowing direct cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems using those standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and verify the clamping screw or pin is torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new cutting edge to prevent seating errors or premature edge failure.
