The KENNAMETAL 4120003 is a solid carbide hexagon milling insert with ISO code HNPJ060432ANSNHD and ANSI code HNPJ438ANSNHD, designed for use in Kennametal Dodeka cutter series milling bodies. The insert carries the KC725M manufacturer grade and features a TiAlN PVD coating applied over solid carbide substrate. It offers 12 cutting edges per insert, a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake geometry, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The HD chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during aggressive milling passes. This insert is installed by machining professionals and CNC operators working in metalcutting production environments.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to material grade codes P, M, and S. It is suited for both roughing and finishing applications where a double-sided insert with high edge count reduces per-edge tooling cost. The HNPJ series geometry and HD chip breaker are optimized for demanding workpiece materials that generate high cutting forces and heat. Typical applications include face milling and shoulder milling operations on machining centers and mill-turn platforms.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the cutter body is secured or removed from the spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified for the cutter body screw to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination under the insert seat affects runout and edge life.
