The KENNAMETAL 4114347 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the R0400GMP chip breaker geometry and is manufactured in the KCU25 grade, a PVD-coated carbide substrate with an AlTiN finish suited for a broad range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard straight-entry grooving applications. With a cutting width of 4.00 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 3.40 mm, the 4114347 is sized for light to moderate groove profiles in the A4 series toolholding system. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary installers.
This insert is used in precision turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where repeatable groove geometry is required. It fits the A4 series toolholder system and is suited for both production and job-shop environments. The full-radius profile, with a corner radius of 2.00 mm, supports smooth groove floor finishing. The GMP chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in grooving passes on materials rated C2 and C6 by material grade. Typical applications include groove turning of shafts, bores, and shoulders on general-purpose CNC lathes.
Designed for use with A4 series grooving toolholders that accept insert seat size 4 inserts. Catalog reference number A4R0400M04P00GMP. Verify toolholder seat size and insert style R compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamping screw to manufacturer torque specification as listed in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
