The KENNAMETAL 4114344 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the A4020GMN geometry with KCU25 grade carbide and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and edge stability in demanding interrupted-cut conditions. The neutral hand orientation suits standard straight-in grooving setups. Cutting width measures 0.0807 inches and maximum depth of cut is 0.069 inches, making it well suited for narrow-groove finish work in both ferrous and nonferrous materials. Machinists and CNC setup techs install this insert as part of routine tooling changes or when matching a qualified groove profile.
This insert fits the Kennametal A4 series toolholding system and is intended for use in grooving and face grooving applications on horizontal and vertical turning equipment. The GMN chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation at moderate to low feed rates typical of finish grooving passes. The full radius corner profile, with a corner radius of 0.042 inches, produces a rounded groove bottom without secondary operations. It is used in job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machining environments where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are required.
Designed for use with Kennametal A4 series grooving toolholders. Insert size designation is 020. Manufacturers catalog number A4R020M02U00GMN may be used to cross-reference compatible holder and system configurations. Verify holder bore and clamping compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before performing any insert change. Seat the insert fully into the holder pocket and confirm clamping force is adequate before returning the machine to service. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification, as overloading a narrow grooving insert can cause sudden edge fracture.
