The KENNAMETAL 4109928 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cuts. The insert delivers a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm), making it well suited for medium-depth groove profiles. The NR insert style features a full radius corner geometry with a K chip breaker. Installation and replacement are handled by machinists and CNC operators using a clamp-style insert holding method.
This insert is intended for use in grooving and profiling applications where consistent groove width and depth control are critical. The 55-degree included angle and full corner radius of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm) support smooth-walled groove finishes in a range of workpiece materials. The KCU25 carbide grade with AlTiN coating is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where heat buildup is a concern. The right-hand orientation fits standard Top Notch series toolholders configured for right-hand cutting. This insert is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed for use in Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting size 4 insert seats. MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number NR4125R/LK applies to this insert profile.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, de-energized state and all axis locks engaged. Use the correct clamp screw torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping force. Verify insert seating fully against the pocket before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change.
