The KENNAMETAL 4109922 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving, profiling, and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a KCU25 grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering elevated wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cuts and continuous grooving. The cutting width is 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 3.81 mm (0.1500 inches). With a full-radius nose geometry and a 1.59 mm corner radius, the insert produces smooth groove floors and consistent surface finish. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians as a standard consumable insert in high-volume turning operations.
This insert is suited for external grooving and profiling applications in metalworking environments, including job shops, production machining facilities, and tool rooms running ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials classified under C2 and C6 material grades. The right-hand cutting orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard Top Notch series insert holders. The chip breaker designation K controls chip formation during moderate-feed grooving passes, reducing built-up edge and chip-packing in confined groove widths.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style insert holders accepting Insert Size 4062 and Insert Seat Size 4. Compatible with holders referencing MSC/Manufacturer Number NR4062R/LK. Confirm holder acceptance of the NR insert style and right-hand cutting direction before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before placing a new insert; a damaged seat will affect insert stability and surface finish. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw and do not substitute insert grades or styles not rated for the holder.
