The KENNAMETAL 4109856 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers thermal and wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. It features a 0.250-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.500 inches (12.70 mm), making it suited for medium to deep grooving passes. The left-hand cutting orientation and K chip breaker geometry are configured for specific toolholder setups and chip control requirements. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the Top Notch series tooling system.
This insert is intended for use in production and job-shop turning environments where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required. It fits within the Top Notch series, a clamp-style insert system commonly used on CNC turning centers handling ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The depth of cut range of 0.300 to 1.000 inches (10.00 to 20.00 mm) supports a range of grooving applications from shallow relief grooves to deeper profile cuts. The 55-degree included angle and 0.0225-inch (0.57 mm) corner radius define the insert geometry at the cutting edge. Installation is performed by CNC machinists and tooling specialists using standard Top Notch compatible toolholders.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting insert seat size 4 and insert size 4250. The MSC/Manufacturer reference number for this insert is NGD4250R/LK. Verify toolholder hand orientation and seat size before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition before accessing the turret or toolholder. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Confirm left-hand orientation matches the programmed toolpath direction before resuming cutting operations.
