The KENNAMETAL 4109783 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3062 insert style in the Top Notch series, it features an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance at elevated cutting speeds. The insert delivers a 0.0622-inch cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0941 inches, making it suitable for fine grooving work where dimensional control is critical. A 0.0075-inch corner radius and neutral rake geometry contribute to consistent chip formation and insert stability during interrupted or continuous cuts.
This insert is intended for right-hand grooving applications in production machining environments, typically installed and serviced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. It fits Top Notch compatible toolholders and is well suited for grooving operations in steel, stainless, and similar materials where PVD AlTiN coatings perform effectively. The 55-degree included angle and neutral rake angle support stable cutting action in moderate to high-speed turning applications. Sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of five units.
Designed for use with Top Notch series compatible grooving toolholders that accept the NG insert style. Reference MSC/Manufacturer Number NG3062R/LK for cross-reference to compatible toolholder configurations.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine at a complete stop and all motion axes locked out. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert to ensure proper clamping force without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder configuration before beginning a cut.
