The KENNAMETAL 4109766 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability in a broad range of workpiece materials. The left-hand cutting geometry provides a 1.19 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.91 mm, making it well suited to narrow-groove and parting applications where precise dimensional control is required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert as part of a clamp-style Top Notch toolholder system.
This insert is intended for use in metal-cutting operations on production turning equipment. The NG-style insert geometry and 55-degree included angle are matched to Top Notch compatible toolholders. It is applicable to both roughing and finishing grooves in the 0.00 to 2.00 mm maximum depth-of-cut range, serving job shops, production floors, and maintenance machining environments. The metric sizing and insert size designation 3047 align with standard Top Notch system toolholder pockets. Minimum order quantity is 5 pieces; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders that accept NG3047 left-hand inserts. The MSC/manufacturer cross-reference number is NG3047R/L. Verify toolholder pocket size and hand orientation before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp, as this can chip the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
