The KENNAMETAL 4109723 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, suited for cutting at elevated temperatures where wear resistance is critical. The insert has a 1.4 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm. With a right-hand cutting orientation and a clamp-style holding method, it seats securely in compatible Top Notch toolholders. A chip breaker geometry designated K aids in controlling chip flow during interrupted or continuous grooving passes. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments install and replace these inserts as part of routine tooling maintenance.
This insert is intended for metric-measurement tooling setups on turning centers performing narrow grooving, undercutting, or parting operations. The KCU25 carbide grade with AlTiN coating performs well across a range of workpiece materials, particularly where surface speed and heat generation are moderate to high. The insert style is NG with an included angle of 55 degrees, an insert size designation of 2M140, and a material grade rating of C2 and C6. It is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units. No full radius is present on the cutting edge; the corner radius is 0.09 mm.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NG-style grooving inserts with a clamp-style holding method. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians during scheduled tooling changes or when insert wear is detected. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling any cutting insert. Use a clamp key or appropriate insert seating tool to secure the insert without applying direct force to the cutting edge. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
