The KENNAMETAL 4109720 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, making it suited for demanding cutting applications where heat resistance and edge retention are required. It features a left-hand cutting orientation, a 2.24 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm. The K chip breaker geometry and 0.19 mm corner radius contribute to controlled chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Installation and application are handled by machinists and CNC turning specialists in precision machining environments.
This insert is intended for use in external grooving and profiling operations on metal workpieces, particularly where metric-dimensioned tooling is specified. The NG insert style and clamp-type holding method place this insert in Top Notch-compatible toolholders. The KCU25 carbide grade with AlTiN finish is appropriate for cutting steels and other materials in the C2 and C6 material grade range. It is suited for both production and job-shop turning environments where consistent groove width and depth control are critical.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NG insert style with clamp-type holding. Compatible with insert size 3M225 designation within the Top Notch system.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and all motion axes secured. The insert seating pocket and clamping surfaces should be cleaned before mounting to ensure proper alignment and clamping force. Torque clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer documentation. Verify insert orientation matches the programmed cutting direction before resuming machine operation.
