The KENNAMETAL 4109676 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Top Notch series, this insert features a KCU25 carbide grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, making it well-suited for interrupted cuts and materials that generate high cutting temperatures. The cutting width measures 1.58 mm (0.0622 inches) and the maximum depth of cut is 2.79 mm (0.1098 inches). The K chip breaker geometry and 0.19 mm corner radius support controlled chip formation during precision grooving. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is used in external grooving applications on lathes and turning centers where precise groove width and depth control are required. The right-hand orientation suits standard spindle configurations. The Top Notch series uses a clamp-style insert holding method, so this insert seats into compatible Top Notch toolholders. It is appropriate for metric-based setups and is sized at insert size 2062. Material grade classifications C2 and C6 indicate suitability for a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials at moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders that accept NG-style inserts at insert size 2062. MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number NG2062R/LK. Verify toolholder specification against the insert size and hand before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and tagged-out condition before any insert change. Use the correct clamp screw torque as specified in the Top Notch toolholder documentation - do not rely on feel alone when seating the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm depth-of-cut programming stays within the 2.00 to 3.00 mm rated range to avoid insert overload.
