The KENNAMETAL 4109669 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG2047 geometry in the Top Notch series, this insert carries a KCU25 grade designation and an AlTiN PVD coating for improved heat resistance and tool life in a range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 1.19 mm (0.0469 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm (0.0500 inches). A 0.09 mm corner radius provides a near-sharp edge profile suited to fine-pitch grooving. The insert is right-hand orientation and is secured via a clamp-style holding method. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is applied in metric-standard grooving toolholders within the Top Notch system. Typical applications include shallow external grooves, undercuts, and snap-ring grooves on turned components in automotive, aerospace, and general metalworking. The KCU25 PVD-coated grade performs in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron at moderate to high cutting speeds. The insert is not designed as a full-radius or multi-use tool and is intended for single-application grooving passes where dimensional control of groove width is critical.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw key specified by the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert — do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer's seating guideline. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm insert orientation (right hand) matches the toolholder configuration before resuming cutting operations.
