The KENNAMETAL 4109668 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Top Notch series standard, this left-hand insert carries the KCU25 grade designation and features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) AlTiN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert delivers a cutting width of 1.19 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm, making it suited for fine grooving work in steel and other materials in the C2 and C6 material grade range. Toolroom machinists and CNC turning specialists install this style of insert using a clamp-style holder.
This insert is intended for use in metalworking applications requiring tight groove width tolerances and consistent surface finish. The Top Notch series configuration is common in production turning environments handling small-diameter grooves on shafts, fittings, and precision components. The K-style chip breaker geometry promotes chip control in controlled-depth grooving passes. The NG insert style with a 55-degree included angle and a 0.09 mm corner radius supports repeatable, low-deviation cuts in both low-volume job shop and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the NG2047 insert size. The MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NG2047R/LK. Verify holder acceptance of the 2047 insert size and left-hand orientation before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert firmly without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer guidelines for starting speeds and feed rates when running a new insert grade or coating.
