The KENNAMETAL 4109647 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to an NF insert style with a KCU25 grade substrate and a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. It is configured for left-hand cutting with a 3.96 mm (0.1559 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.1500 inch). The K-style chip breaker and 12-degree rake angle promote controlled chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning shops are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials in both light and medium-duty applications. The AlTiN PVD coating makes it a strong candidate for dry or semi-dry machining conditions where heat buildup at the cutting edge is a concern. The Top Notch series uses a clamp-style insert holding method, making this insert compatible with Top Notch-style toolholders that accept the 3156 insert size. It carries a C2 and C6 material grade classification, appropriate for a range of steels and cast irons.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting the 3156 insert size. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NF3156R/LK.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied before changing inserts. Use appropriate insert clamp screws and torque them per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for damage or debris before seating the insert. Never exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert, as doing so can cause insert fracture or toolholder damage.
