The KENNAMETAL 4079281 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It carries a 1/2 inch diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and a 5/8 inch length of cut. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures. With 4 right-hand spiral flutes and a high helix angle, this tool supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single setup. It is a single-end, centercutting design with a 2.5 inch overall length and a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, fitting standard end mill toolholders. Machinists and CNC programmers in job shops, aerospace, and general machining environments specify this tool for demanding cut paths.
This end mill is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. The short flute-length classification and extended reach design make it well suited to pocketing, contouring, and profiling passes where tool rigidity and coating durability are priorities. The submicron carbide grade supports tight tolerance work in production environments. It is sized and shanked for direct mounting in standard end mill toolholders without adapters.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Part of the KENNAMETAL UADE series, this tool is sized at 1/2 inch shank diameter with a straight-cylindrical shank profile compatible with collet chucks, hydraulic holders, and shrink-fit holders accepting 1/2 inch shanks.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify shank engagement depth meets the toolholder manufacturer minimum before tightening. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before initiating the cut, and observe all machine guarding and lockout procedures during tool changes.
