The KENNAMETAL 4078710 is a WNMG432FP KCP10 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for high-productivity metal cutting operations. It carries a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 CVD coating applied via MTCVD process, which builds wear resistance and heat tolerance during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has an 80-degree trigon shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The FP chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge promote controlled chip flow and edge stability when turning steel and cast iron at moderate to aggressive feed rates. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and pool service pros are not the audience here — this insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard KENLOC-style toolholders that accept WNMG insert geometry. With six usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers strong cost-per-edge value in repetitive production runs. Typical applications include roughing to semi-finishing passes on low-alloy steels, gray cast iron, and ductile iron components where consistent chip control and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style and standard WNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a 432 insert size. Suitable for primary workpiece materials in ISO P (steel) and K (cast iron) categories. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for WNMG insert geometry; ISO code WNMG080408FP.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for WNMG clamp-and-pin systems. Always index or replace inserts with the machine spindle stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for debris or damage before seating a new edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.2278 inches as stated in the manufacturer data.
