The KENNAMETAL 4071888 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the HPHV series platform, this single-end tool features four flutes with a variable index geometry and a 38-degree right-hand helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces chatter. The 3/8-inch mill diameter and straight shank make it a direct fit for standard collet and end mill holders. At 3.0 inches overall length with a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, it suits a wide range of milling depths on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry. The material grade is KCPM15, a fine-grain carbide substrate optimized for wear resistance and edge retention under aggressive cutting conditions.
This end mill is engineered for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and H. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during side milling and slotting operations, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous workpieces. It is appropriate for shops running high-speed machining strategies where tool life and surface finish consistency are priorities. The bright uncoated finish noted in the specification data reflects the natural carbide substrate rather than an applied coating layer.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills accepting 3/8-inch straight shank tooling. Suitable for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened materials per ISO classifications P, M, K, and H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with toolholder runout tolerances and proper collet torque procedures. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder to minimize overhang and deflection. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut against published cutting data for the workpiece material and machine rigidity before first use. Never exceed the tool's rated cutting diameter or length of cut in a single pass without confirming the machine's capability.
