The KENNAMETAL 4053383 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNMG432FW and ISO designation DNMG150408FW, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a wiper finishing chip breaker geometry (FW). The inscribed circle measures 0.5000 inches, the corner radius is 0.0313 inches, and the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. With four cutting edges, a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, and honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for tight-tolerance finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. It belongs to the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series and carries grade KCU10, optimized for high to moderate wear resistance with balanced toughness.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The FW wiper geometry enables higher feed rates while maintaining fine surface finishes, making it a practical choice for finishing passes on steel and stainless steel components. It performs across a range of primary workpiece material groups including P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), S (superalloys and titanium), and H (hardened materials). The maximum depth of cut is 0.4065 inches (13/32 inches), and the insert accommodates clamp and pin holding methods.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNMG432 (ISO DNMG150408) inserts with clamp and pin holding. Compatible toolholder systems must accommodate the 0.2031-inch hole diameter and negative side clearance geometry. Verify toolholder specifications before ordering.
Turning insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified hardware for seating the insert in the KENLOC pocket to ensure proper clamping. Inspect the pocket seating surface and clamp pin for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Do not use impact tools or improvised seating methods, as these can fracture the carbide insert or damage the toolholder pocket.
