The KENNAMETAL 4053344 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiAlN (AlTiN) PVD coating, designed for high-wear-resistance finishing and light machining operations on a CNC lathe or turning center. Designated by ANSI code TPGH321 and ISO code TPGH160304, it features a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius, and an insert thickness of 1/8 inch (0.1250 inch). The LF chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge make this insert well-suited for controlled, consistent chip formation in finishing passes. It is held by screw clamping and offers three usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC turning equipment in both production and job-shop environments. It is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). The KCU10 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance with appropriate toughness across these material groups. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working with a screw-on insert toolholder system compatible with TPGH321 geometry.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting TPGH321 (ANSI) or TPGH160304 (ISO) triangular inserts with a 0.1310 inch hole diameter. Compatible toolholder systems must accommodate a positive rake, 11-degree relief angle insert with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or socket-head screw driver to seat the insert securely against the toolholder pocket without overtightening. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge. Verify tool offset and perform a test cut before returning the machine to full production feed rates.
