The KENNAMETAL 4050786 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPGF431 geometry, grade KCU10, with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a relief angle of 11 degrees, and a sharp cutting edge style. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the insert length is 22 mm (0.866 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). With three usable cutting edges and a screw-holding method, this insert is suited for high-productivity turning applications where consistent edge performance matters. It is part of the KENNAMETAL KENDEX series.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — workpiece material codes P, M, and S. The KCU10 grade with TiAlN coating handles the elevated temperatures and abrasive conditions common in these materials. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2884 inches, making it appropriate for both moderate roughing and semi-finishing passes in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing are the typical users. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and is well suited to lighter setups and smaller machine spindles.
Designed for use in KENDEX-series toolholders that accept TPGF-style triangular inserts with a screw clamping method. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for the TPGF431 geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and prevent premature edge failure.
