The KENNAMETAL 4050779 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG432 geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and designated grade KCU10. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert features a flat-top chip breaker, a positive rake angle, a positive side clearance, and a honed cutting edge style with three usable cutting edges. It is suited for high wear-resistance to moderate toughness applications across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The KCU10 grade targets steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), aluminum (ISO N), superalloys and titanium (ISO S), and hardened materials (ISO H), making it a multi-material insert for production and job-shop environments. The maximum depth of cut is 0.2884 inches. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, carrying ANSI code TPG432 and ISO code TPG220408, with an ISO designation of TPGN220408. It is held in the toolholder by a clamp-style clamping method.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENNAMETAL KENDEX series toolholders accepting TPG432 geometry inserts with clamp-style insert holding. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions and insert seating before installation.
Installation of indexable carbide inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can chip or crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for debris or damage before seating the new insert.
