Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4050696 is a CNMG433UP indexable turning insert in the KCU10 grade, designed for steel, stainless steel, and superalloy machining. It features a solid carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert geometry uses a negative rake angle with a honed cutting edge and a UP chip breaker optimized for roughing and medium machining operations. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch corner radius, this insert handles moderate-to-aggressive depths of cut in turning, facing, and boring applications. Four available cutting edges extend tool life per insert.

This insert is suited for CNC turning centers running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, aluminum, and hardened materials. The KENLOC series insert is designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders with clamp or pin holding methods. Typical applications include continuous and interrupted roughing passes and medium finishing cuts in both horizontal and vertical lathe setups in production and job shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling ferrous and exotic-alloy components are the primary installers.

Key Features

  • PVD TiAlN coating for high wear resistance and thermal stability
  • UP chip breaker geometry optimized for roughing and medium machining
  • 4 cutting edges per insert, negative rake, honed edge prep
  • Neutral hand orientation for flexible toolholder mounting
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods
  • Multi-use geometry supports turning, facing, and boring in a single insert style

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMG433UP-style indexable turning inserts used in CNMG negative-rake toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ANSI insert code CNMG433; ISO insert code CNMG120412.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the clamp or pin. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and safe cutting forces.
