The KENNAMETAL 4050688 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432P geometry, manufactured under the KENLOC series and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. The insert carries grade KCU10 and is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of workpiece materials. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a negative rake with a honed cutting edge. Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across standard CNMG toolholders. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 4050688 is suited for roughing and medium machining operations. Its grade characteristics cover steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). The chip breaker designation P is optimized for roughing through medium cuts, providing controlled chip formation across these material groups. It is used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers where a secure clamp-and-pin insert holding method is employed. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1691 inches.
Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG432 and ISO insert code CNMG120408P. Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin retention. Multi-use application includes turning, facing, and boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and zero-energy-lock the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert — do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure proper seating and runout accuracy.
