The KENNAMETAL 4050673 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ANSI designation CNGP431 and ISO code CNGP120404, manufactured to the KCU10 grade within Kennametal's KENLOC series. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert is engineered for high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, it suits medium machining chip breaker applications. Four cutting edges per insert maximize tool life. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this tooling.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on lathes and turning centers handling steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). The KCU10 grade targets high to moderate wear resistance combined with appropriate toughness for interrupted and continuous cuts in production environments. It is a fit for shops running medium machining operations where consistent edge performance across material families is a priority. The KENLOC clamping system, using a clamp and pin holding method, is required for proper seating and secure insert retention during operation.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNGP431 (ANSI) or CNGP120404 (ISO) inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards. Material grade classifications C3 and C4 apply.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine guarding requirements during insert changes.
