The KENNAMETAL 4050534 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the NPL52 style, designed for precision material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to manufacturer grade KCU25 with a fine grain carbide substrate and an AlTiN PVD coating, this left-hand insert delivers consistent edge performance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The parallelogram-shaped body measures 0.375 inches in length and 0.125 inches in thickness, with a 0.03125-inch corner radius suited to close-tolerance profiling work. Screw clamping and a negative rake geometry provide rigid tool holding during interrupted and continuous cuts.
This insert is intended for profiling and external turning operations on production and job-shop lathes. It is well suited to finish and semi-finish passes on difficult-to-machine materials including stainless and titanium alloys where the AlTiN PVD coating resists heat buildup and edge wear. The left-hand orientation and four available cutting edges make it a practical choice for high-volume applications where insert economy and repeatable geometry matter. Licensed machinists, CNC programmers, and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert conforming to NPL52 and ISO code KCGX110308L15 standards, compatible with Top Notch series screw-lock insert toolholders that accept the NPL52 insert style.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten or use an impact driver. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping seat for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and proper edge presentation. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of chipping, built-up edge, or dimensional drift on the workpiece.
