The KENNAMETAL 4050468 is a CNMG643RP KCU25 grade solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating designed for demanding metal-cutting operations. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, providing stability under heavy interrupted and continuous cuts. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/4-inch thickness, and a 3/64-inch corner radius, this insert is built for rigorous turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. The RP chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a wide range of feed rates and depths of cut. Qualified machinists and CNC operators working in production environments are the primary installers and users.
This insert is suited for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The KCU25 grade and AlTiN PVD coating combination is engineered for elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive workpieces common in aerospace, energy, and general machining applications. The KENLOC series insert seats into compatible toolholders using a clamp and pin holding method, making it appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes in turning, facing, and boring operations. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a variety of toolholder configurations.
Designed for use in KENLOC-compatible toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Suitable for CNC turning centers and lathes processing steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Maximum depth of cut is 0.2536 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure accurate positioning and cutting-edge engagement.
