The KENNAMETAL 4050466 is a CNMG642MS turning insert in grade KCU25, designed for indexable tooling systems used in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The MS chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining applications. Four cutting edges are available per insert, reducing cost per edge on high-volume turning programs.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. It is identified under ANSI code CNMG642 and ISO code CNMG190608MS, making it a standard geometry compatible with KENLOC and other CNMG-style insert pockets. Typical users are CNC machinists and tool-room technicians working in production or job-shop environments on both light and heavy stock removal passes.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series CNMG toolholders and any standard CNMG642 (ISO CNMG190608) insert pocket that accepts a negative-rake, clamp- or pin-held insert. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S are supported per the grade characteristics of KCU25.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following standard indexable-insert change-out procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamp screw; do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamp load.
