Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4050455 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG433MS geometry, finished with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating and graded KCU25. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch). The insert seats via clamp or pin holding in KENLOC-style toolholders and delivers moderate wear-resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. Four cutting edges per insert extend tool-life value. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in production and job-shop environments.

This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its KCU25 grade targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys including titanium, making it suited for both roughing and medium machining passes. The MS chip breaker geometry manages chip formation across variable feed and depth-of-cut conditions. It conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG433 and ISO insert code CNMG120412, fitting toolholders dimensioned to those standards. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1691 inch.

Key Features

  • KCU25 PVD AlTiN coating provides moderate wear-resistance and toughness for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous, and superalloy workpieces
  • 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with negative rake and negative side clearance for rigid, stable cutting geometry
  • MS chip breaker supports roughing and medium machining operations with controlled chip evacuation
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert reduce per-edge tooling cost
  • Honed cutting edge style reduces microchipping at the cutting edge
  • Compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods; meets ANSI and ISO dimensional standards

Compatibility

Designed for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG433 (ANSI) or CNMG120412 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Industry standard number CNMG433MS and ISO code CNMG120412MS apply for cross-reference matching.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware to seat the insert; do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge.
